On 24 August 2026, HEROGRID was presented at the course “Data in the Scientific Space: A Journey from Creation to Knowledge”, organised by the PTI Ciencia Digital at the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP) in Santander.

During the opening session, dedicated to data acquisition, IoT, security and sensors, Gonzalo Murillo, HEROGRID Scientific Coordinator and researcher at the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM, CSIC), delivered the seminar “IoT in Industrial Applications”.

His presentation explored different examples of Internet of Things (IoT) devices for industrial applications, including the work being carried out within HEROGRID. The project develops self-powered IoT sensor nodes for High-Temperature Low-Sag (HTLS) power lines, combining advanced sensing technologies with energy harvesting and AI-based Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) models to support more efficient and reliable electricity transmission.

The session provided an opportunity to introduce HEROGRID’s technological approach in the broader context of data generation and smart sensing, highlighting how autonomous IoT technologies can enable real-time monitoring in demanding industrial environments.

The three-day UIMP course addressed the complete scientific data lifecycle, from data generation and acquisition to processing, management, storage and reuse. Through expert talks and practical case studies, the programme explored topics including IoT and sensors, artificial intelligence, data security, FAIR principles and the European Open Science Cloud.
